Comfort overflowing

By

He comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows."
2 Corinthians 1:4-5

Life is hard. Life can be unrelenting, wearisome, joyful, exciting, bittersweet. And sometimes all you need is to be seen and understood.

I am in a season that is characteristically hard. It is wearisome, I go to bed exhausted almost every day. Sometimes I have cried myself to sleep for one reason or another.

It was in one of those moments when the Lord brought me to 2 Corinthians 1. Oh, what a heart hug.

I needed comfort. My heart was breaking, I was beating myself up for yet again “failing” as a mother. I needed a shoulder to cry on and I read the verse above. My afflictions are for His glory – so that I can come alongside someone else and comfort them.

I am reminded that in this season I am going to be refined, but my experiences are not for naught. They will somehow, some way point someone to Christ. I can comfort those around me inside this season “for just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”

Oh, what glorious reminder. A heart hug and push to keep going.

I do not do this life alone, and neither do you! What a way to live hopefilled! Overflowing Christ’s comfort onto those around us.

Your Monday Moment

What is your affliction that you need the Lord’s comfort for?

How can you use the comfort you get from the Lord to comfort those around you this week?
