Cleaning has gotten so complicated. If you use name brand it’s expensive and too many chemicals. If you use all natural cleaners, it can be expensive and not as effective.
Chemicals are bad…
Call the poison control if ingested…
When did cleaning get so dangerous?
I get overwhelmed by all the information online. The “do use” or “do not use” messages are constantly put in front of us.
I am grateful that we are now getting the education, but it can be extremely overwhelming.
Who wishes that there was a restart button? I know I do!
In those moments of being overwhelmed I go back to basics.
I go back to vinegar.
Vinegar is an all-purpose cleaner. I use white distilled vinegar, but you can use Apple Cider Vinegar too.
A Healthline article written by Debra Rose Wilson explains the benefits of using vinegar as a household cleaner. She writes “It…makes a great cleaner and disinfectant because it’s made from acetic acid.”
This acid is what makes this an all-purpose cleaner. It “cuts through mineral deposits, dirt, grease, and grime. It’s also strong enough to kill bacteria.”
Wilson lists several uses. Here are a few that I use
- Glass cleaner
- Descaling my appliances
- laundry
- I use vinegar as a fabric softener
- Disinfectant spray (I use The Spruce recipe or Wellness Mama’s.)
- Produce cleaner
- 1 – 2 Tablespoons of Baking soda, splash of vinegar and water into my sink of fruits and veggies. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Baby toy disinfectant
- Let the toys sit in vinegar and water for 20 minutes or until I remember them. Rinse them off and let them dry.

By using vinegar, I have in a small way pressed the reset button in my home. Not only does it save money, but it is safe and effective to use around my children.
