A mama must have

By

Making food and food prep has become the bane of my existence. Then you throw baby food into the mix, and I’m at a loss.

Well at least I used to be.

With my youngest, I have done several things different. Instead of fretting over what foods to start him on or how much to give him I set a rule. When he got his first tooth, then we decided to start solid foods.

With my other three we always started with oatmeal. But this time we went for vegetables and fruits right off the bat. I did more squashes, broccoli and cauliflower than I did fruit.

Here are two things that you may want to consider getting for your kitchen, IF you are going to be making your own baby food.

  1. Frozen veggie/fruit or veggie/fruit blends.
    • These are life and time savers. I use Costco stir fry veggies or Puravida Fire roasted Veggies.
    • When cooking these, you can use a steamer or throw the amount you want into a microwave container. Then soften up the veggies.
  2. Immersion blender
    • This handheld blender makes pureeing the baby food SO much easier. And faster.
    • You can have single serving foods blended up in 30 seconds or less.
    • The other night, I did a little serving of spaghetti for my little guy and blended it up super quickly. It was still warm, and we were all eating on time.

Now you may be saying, well yeah, that’s great, but I don’t need it. I said the same thing. I always used my great big blender or my smoothie blender. But I found I always made way more than I needed. Or I would be tired and procrastinate doing the dishes. Then I would get frustrated with myself that the dishes weren’t done.

The immersion blender I need to just wash off the blade and it’s good to go for the next meal.

The easier clean up makes this blender a necessity in our home.

Having frozen fruits and veggies make first foods so much easier. It is more affordable instead of buying food packets or even pre-made food in the jars. I love that I can steam or microwave the foods and make my baby’s food quickly. I have the peace of mind that it is healthier than the food at the grocery store. It doesn’t have preservatives in it, and I know EXACTLY what is in the food I am giving my child.

If you are looking at making your baby’s food or looking for a gift idea for a mama who is wanting to venture into making her own baby food. Definitely consider getting the immersion blender! I love mine!
