In conventional medicine we all know that Vicks is the one of the best chest rub. There are other organic chest rubs out there too, like Earthely’s Breathe Well Salve.
But, did you know that you can make chest rub on your own?
All you need is coconut oil and a few essential oils!
You can get coconut oil just about anywhere now a day and while essential oil quality differs you can get good oils at stores or use specialized companies like doTERRA or Young Living.
Coconut oil is called a carrier oil. Some oils, if put directly on the skin can hurt and irritate. When you add it to a carrier oil, you add a barrier to protect the skin. They help the oils absorb into the skin.
To make the chest rub, you’ll need to put it in a bowl and combine all the ingredients. Mix until it’s a smooth consistency. Once it is all mixed together, you can store in an airtight container in room temperature. I would not recommend putting it in the refrigerator. It won’t hurt it, but it will make the coconut oil extremely hard and difficult to work with.
This chest rub is safe to use on anyone. For babies, put small amounts on the bottoms of their feet, when they are about 3 months old.
