One Basket at a Time

By

A family of 6 soon to 7…laundry is the non-stop, constant, and bane of my existence! I could swim in the amounts of laundry that I wash, fold, and put away. Sunday and Thursday nights are my catch-up nights.

The feeling of success was squelched the next morning with another mountain of clothes that needed to be washed.

Now I will admit we as a whole have too many clothes, and we are in the process of simplifying our lives before baby # 5 comes in the fall. Clothes, toys, and general clutter will find new homes as soon as possible!

But in the meantime, my husband will be taking the cake for the best, yet challenging solution we have established in our home!

The One Basket Method.

It is as crazy as you may think.

I have one basket in my house. I do one load a day with that basket. I fill it with clothes or linens. Then I wash it, dry it, fold it, and put it away. Once that ONE load is done, I will do another load the next day.

I am still getting used to the routine. I will say that having one basket instead of multiple has already helped my brain and my heart to not be so cluttered. Having a doable task throughout the day has been helpful to feel accomplished on the home front. I am also not dealing with mountains upon mountains of clothes that are built up over the week.

While the other night I did have a little mountain, it is not half as bad as it was when I had 4 or 5 baskets.

As someone who is toying with the idea of being a minimalist, but an emotional hoarder, this has been given me the hope I need to continue to simplify my life!
