Your touch leaves an impact
My heart burst with pride as I opened my text. Harper was teaching! I watched my little Harper grow into the young lady standing before the elementary Sunday school class for years. Quick to help, quick to encourage. Quick to challenge and bring banter to the class. She now has stepped up to teach those younger than her. She made me so proud!
I think I understand a little bit how my mentor must feel. At least I hope he feels that.

In high school, I had the blessing of a math tutor who became my mentor. He challenged me in my walk with the Lord and encouraged me when I felt lost. The Lord used my parents and this man to guide me through a difficult season. He has continued to do so for over a decade.
I often think about a student in my youth group too. This student has shaped how I interact with others to this day. He spoke quietly, but I heard him clearly – “She always has to be the center of attention.” From then on I have always heard that in the back of my mind and I am humbled. I step back and try to not make things all about me. I fail sometimes, but I do make that effort.

It just proves, that your touch in someone’s life matters. It will leave a mark – for good or bad. You have the power to make or break someone.
As you raise your children or teach the next generation, remember your impact on them. We who are older, have the privilege and weight to help those younger than us to make wise decisions. When they come to us, let us make every effort to encourage them in their endeavors. We should guide them through the uncertainties of their futures. If you share their faith, challenge them to get stronger in it. Love on the generation behind you. You can swing the pendulum of their lives more than you ever know.
