A listening ear

By

Music, storybooks, and countless hours of audiobooks filled my growing up. In turn, I have filled my children’s lives with as much as my mother did for me.

I looked for things to listen to that would be enjoyable for both them and me. I looked for tales to fill our days and create core memories for my kids.

Here are just a few that I have found that we love to listen to!

  1. Games and Giggles
    • Daily Games and activities for kids and families.
    • My kids love this show. We listen to it while I am making dinner, or while I am putting the youngest to bed.
  2. Snacktime Superhero Stories
    • This is one of our favorites. A fellow mom reads superhero books to her little boy during their snack time. We love listening to the marvel stories. Thankfully there are a lot of them!
  3. Paws & Tales
    • This podcast is something that I used to listen to when I was a little girl. The wonderful stories all point back to Jesus in each tale. My favorite part is at the end of each episode. There is a song that sums up the whole story and lesson!
  4. Nature and Science 4 kids
    • I found this podcast while trying to find Biblically based Science for the boys as we started homeschooling. MooseJaw Matt brings science to life and transports us to far off places as we learn about various creatures.
  5. Real Cool History for Kids
    • “Real Cool History for Kids tells amazing stories from history, from a Biblical worldview perspective.”
    • Angela Odell dives into historical events or people and tells their stories. I love that I can trust the history lessons.
  6. Kids Playlist
    • This is a playlist that I created for our kids. It includes praise music, movie scores, and songs my husband and I enjoy. I add to it regularly. The kids love the playlist. When we aren’t sure what to listen to, I will turn it on. I’ll turn it on when I need them to get some energy out.

In Sally Clarkson’s The Lifegiving Home Experience she wrote “…our family has discovered many others ways to refresh ourselves and find beauty in the midst of our dull or ordinary days…” This is my aim with the things we listen to. To bring beauty and joy to the ordinary. To inspire my kids’ imagination for hours in the day. Music, podcasts, audiobooks invite us to slow down and enjoy the moments of the day. We live in a fast paced world. It is crucial for you and me to enjoy the rest while we can. We must teach our children to do the same.
