On a busy day, I want to feel successful and like I have been productive. This year, I have unknowingly built that into our year!
As we start our day at breakfast, we begin achieving two or three victories – just as we are eating!
Using the Simply Charlotte Mason curriculum, we start out our day with family lessons. We do their Scripture memory, history, Bible history, and poetry at the breakfast table in the morning. Each of those subjects, except Scripture Memory, is done on different days; we are never doing more than one or two subjects in the morning.
We start every day reviewing and learning different Scripture verses. With their method of memorization, my kids and I have memorized Genesis 1:1, 27, and 31. Then after memory, we either do our history reading or listen to the Bible passage that goes with our history lesson. After that, we will read our poem for the week. So before 9 o’clock in the morning, we have accomplished at least 2 lessons on our school agenda.
That is a victory for me because even on busy days I can check something off my to-do list! And if we get nothing else done on busy days, i.e., co-op days, I know that I have succeeded at something in our school day.
Aim small, miss small comes to mind this morning. You set a goal, and you get 1% better (that was from a book my friend read). Every day, my kids and I get 1% better, and we achieve at least one of our goals. So we can start the day feeling not only fulfilled but also motivated to keep at our lists for the day!
